Calves can withstand cold temperatures if they can stay dry and out of the wind. But if they get wet or chilled from sleeping on top of ice or in puddles it can cause stress and related health problems. Home Hardware’s Calf Shelter offers a safe haven from violent storms, plunging wind chill factors and all manner of inclement weather. Cost-effective and easy to construct, it’s an especially great benefit on properties that lack brush or other natural windbreaks. Designed for calves only, the shelter features front guard rails to ensure cows and other large farm animals cannot enter. The spacious 128-square foot interior allows room enough to comfortably house 2-3 calves. Sturdy 2’ x 4’ studs and rafters provide solid framing, and pressure-treated base skids help prevent rot and decay. The skids also allow for easy movement of the shelter if required. Galvanized metal cladding on the walls and roof provide long-lasting durability. The roof design also features a backward slope to allow snow, ice and rain to run off safely away from your livestock.
